Southampton's best kept secret is how former Bishop Jonathan of Southampton described Cantores Michaelis (founded 2000). The group of choral scholars from the University of Southampton is funded by The Friends of St Michael's and based at the ancient Southampton City Centre church of St Michael the Archangel. The group specialises in unaccompanied repertoire composed for the Christian Liturgy. The music ranges from Gregorian Chant, Tudor and Renaissance Masses and Motets, to twentieth century composers. On special feast days and concerts the singers are joined by orchestral players for the performance of Mass settings.

The cemetery opened in 1846 is one of the earliest municipal cemeteries and the first cemetery to house plots for Hebrew burials in a public cemetery. Assistance is offered in researching graves, locating them in the cemetery and individual maintenance. The group offer guided walks, talks on heritage subjects and sell booklets relating to the Victorian social history and cemetery related topics. Contact Gillie Blake on 023 8034 9414 for further detail or to arrange a guided walk for a group.

The Fellowship has nearly 200 branches throughout the UK to help and encourage members to pursue an exciting kaleidoscope of interests and activities, at the same time providing many social events at which existing friendships are maintained and new ones formed.
